In 1974, after spending several years in The Air force Reserves, Jim Fogarty began teaching others how to fly as an F.A.A. Certified Flight Instructor, and later would also become a certified instrument instructor as well as a multi engine instructor. He was a founding member of J.E.D. Flying Club , a fixture of the Youngstown Airport for nearly thirty years, as well as a founding member of the Youngstown Flight Instructors Association.
